About the Enigma

The Enigma is the magazine of the National Puzzlers’ League (NPL), created by and for members. Each month’s issue includes:

  • Flats, puzzles in verse that are rarely seen beyond the NPL
  • Forms, our take on traditional crossword puzzles, with a geometric twist
  • Cryptograms
  • Extras, which can include cryptic crosswords and other puzzle types, including new types developed by members
  • Articles about topics that may be of interest to the NPL

If you’re the type who gets a thrill out of seeing words rearranged in sneaky ways, you’ll love The ENIGMA. The puzzles range from beginner-friendly to mind-meltingly tricky, so there’s something for everyone. The easiest way to get a sense of The Enigma is to download our minisample. If you enjoy it, you may want to join the NPL.
