The Enigma is the magazine of the National Puzzlers’ League (NPL), created by and for members. Each month’s issue includes:
- Flats, puzzles in verse that are rarely seen beyond the NPL
- Forms, our take on traditional crossword puzzles, with a geometric twist
- Cryptograms
- Cryptic crosswords
- Extras, which include a variety of other puzzle types, including new types developed by members
- Articles about topics that may be of interest to the NPL
For detailed information about various types of flats, forms, and extras, check out the Guide to The Enigma.

Graffiti on the Sphinx
There used to be a lovely publication called Graffiti on the Sphinx (GotS), which provided commentary on The Enigma and its content. Sadly, it is no longer being written, but you can peruse the archives, which have interesting material.
